In 1999 John conducted a real time evaluation of a joint Swewdish Canadian Arctic expedition organised by the Swedish Polar Secretariat.
![]() The Swedish Polar SecretariatThe Swedish Polar Research Secretariat is a government agency that promotes and co-ordinates Swedish polar research. This includes to follow and plan research and development, as well as to organise and lead research expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions. | ![]() Canadian IcebreakerThe expedition followed the Arctic Circle round from Gothenbourg to Alaska and back. John was flown out the icebreaker in Toyatakuk Northern Canada via Thule US airbase in Greenland. | ![]() Tundra EcosystemThe expedition studied all aspects of the Arctic ecosystem; flora, fauna, weather systems and followed on from a previous Swedish/ Russian expedition which traversed the Arctic in the eastern hemisphere. |

![]() Preparation & LogisticsJohn was involved with the preparation for the expedition in Sweden and participated in a week long Arctic skills course in the far north of the country. | ![]() Research ThemesThe research aims of the expedition were divided into 5 themes and part of John's task was to map interactions between the different disciplines participating in the expedition. | ![]() The Final ReportJohn's Final Report provided recommendations for improving preparation for expeditions, and mapping and disseminations of scientific results. |
